But I’m Not Racist!

In first grade, my daughter developed a crush on a young boy in her class. For the first time in her life, she deliberately withheld that sort of information from me. When I asked her why, she revealed that she thought her new crush would upset her father and me…because the object of her affection was clothed in skin a shade darker than her own.

We were shocked to our core, and that one, tiny dinner conversation sent us on a course that would change our lives. This series documents that journey.
